Rene Memorial Sharkathon April 23-26-2010 Long Key bridge

for those who dont know WILL puts alot of his time and money in all these events, we are very lucky to have him and im looking forward to the next event "THE BIG HAMMER CHALLANGE''

i had a great time hangin out with everyone fishing,jumping off the bridge and learning ive never been apart in anything in my life that i was proud of untill now

CONGRATULATIONS!
That's a notable accomplishment, details on the catch please, like what tackle did you use, time of day and bait, (arroz con frijoles negros and lechon seems to work best, most of the time)

200 pounds - have your scale re-checked... certainly NOT an IGFA certified scale by any means!!!

Also did you tag such specimen and where did you place the tag ???

At 3am i woke up sandra and reymundo. We walk down by Will and Hammer, and i tell Reymundo look you hold my 12-0 that i never put out, i told him hold it here next to will while i run full speed the opposite way as the clicker screamed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

than i tell sandra to stand on the side and take pictures n on stop.

So i do it and as i speed off running i yell hammer your rod !!!!!! its a hammer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hurrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

So Will Wakes up running 100mph and grabs my 12-0 right away!!!!! he starts running down the bridge reeling to follow the line, i guess he was still dreaming and didnt know what the hell was happening!!!
He continued running and reeling with a dead serious face for a good 20 seconds!!!!(laughing right now as i type lol)

Untill me and reymundo finally out of air from cracking up we wqave him down to stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I heard the scream from where we were and we were down on the 6th pole, We all thought it was a monster Shark (JAWS) only to find out later it was a seaweed and clack pulling on the line.
Got to meet some of you in person and if I can ever help I am only a click away. The last time I fished for sharks in long key was 20 yrs. ago! I really enjoyed geting to know some of you and talking among fellow shark fisherman. We had a great time and count us in for April, Hope to see all of you again and more.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold"you got me fellas but watch out cause next time it might be you in a biiiiiigggggggggggg wwaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!!I can say we had a good time despite the full moon and the slow snapper bite.The joke was on you guys if I would of caught the beast that hit my half 25 lb AJ at full speed at 3 am .While the different crews decided to move off far away from the end of the bridge the wife ,the dog and I stayed between pilings one and two as I hatched a plan to draw in the monster.Part of the plan was knowing the monsters swim up the current which bends around towards the north on that side of the bridge and have to funnel in between the point of land and the flats looking for the scent trail i was putting out.All these guys were calling my spot "the Dead Lagoon"but I stayed faithful and chummed the spot with a 10 lb jack crevalle and half an Aj dangling on a rope seeping there juices into the strong current.While they all lost faith, moved away,and kept there baits in close on the inside of the pilings and on top of the water like Jd Hammer has taught them they were'nt around to learn the many other tricks Rene taught me way back before most of these whipper snappers were too young to twist #19 wire.Rene who studied intensely his sport and had a natural instinct for getting the bait to the right spot , taught me to send one rod way the hell out beyond everyone else's bait and that the shark swimming up the current would get to that bait before all the others. So I ballooned my half 20 lb AJ way ,way out and at 3 am wass awakened by a powerful run.Fast but steady without a bit of hesitation the beast moved off with the the trophy chunk of fresh bait and I screamed for the giuys to get ready "I had what we came top look for" Half dazed and filled with a burst of adrenalin I set up a bit early- i guess- because I did'nt get a solid hookup.In the morning when I reeled in the biat it had a half moon bite about 15 inches across.The only solid hit we had all weekend was gone but I proved I could still tap in to my Rene Karma and make things happen when everyone else was going where the current Zen master JD Hammer was leading them.Congratulations to everyone that made it out -----one more year we keep the tradition alive that was started long ago by the best that ever walked on this bridge Rene de Dios.Pictures later and more of the behind the scenes look at a Big Shark Hunt on Long key bridge circa 2010.

People who fished with us and knew Rene many years ago at the old south beach pier often find us through Google searches .Such was the case with Tony Medina who many years ago spent his many youthful days on that old concrete pier a gathering place for anyone wanting to get into shark fishing in a big way by watching Rene do his THING!!! A few weeks ago Tony(seawolf) became a member on this forum and reached out us with the desire to fish in the Rene Memorial.Well this past weekend Tony won the Rene Memorial with his 4 foot 1 inch finetooth shark.Congratulations to Tony and his team.Here are some pictures that he sent for us to post for him.
